CDT Science Festival | Science & Ethics – Monday 9 July 2018

The Mathematics of Planet Earth CDT welcomes you to 2018 edition of the CDT Science Festival on Science and Ethics. The CDT Science Festival is an event organised every year by MRes + PhD students of various Centres of Doctoral Training (CDTs) present at Imperial College London that involves and celebrates scientific research from diverse perspectives. This year the event is going to take place on Monday 9th July from 10:00 – 18:00 in the Queen’s Tower Rooms(QTR).

The 2018 version of the festival offers you the exciting opportunity to understand the implications of research in society, how science could integrate with ethical values and argue about possible side-effects that each research area would project into our lives. Students, researchers and non-experts will have the opportunity to address various debated topics with valuable insights from an interactive exhibition and a pool of experts in the field. The festival includes a series of talks on Sustainable Innovation, Climate Change, Artificial Intelligence, Genome Editing and Quantum Technologies which are organised as:

10:00 – 10:45             Ehab Syed on Sustainable Innovation

11:15 – 12:00              Ted Shepherd on Climate Change

12:00 – 14:00             Free Lunch & Pandemic Interactive Movie

14:00 – 14:45              Henry Shevlin on Moral Philosophy and Artificial Intelligence

14:45 – 15:30              Helen O’Neill on Gene Editing

16:00 – 16:45              Winfried Hensinger on Quantum Technologies

Please note that all the talks will take place in Read Lecture Theatre, 5th Floor, Sherfield Building, ICL.

The CDT Festival is also inviting for posters for a one-day pop up exhibition on research and innovations in different scientific disciplines and possible solutions for various ethical issues associated with it. Therefore, if you think your research addresses any such issue please submit a short description of your work to cdtfestival@gmail.com.
