It our great pleasure to announce that the Mathematics of Planet Earth CDT accepted 12 students through a competitive application process into its 2014-2015 inaugural cohort. The program kicked off with a residential course held in the University of Reading on September 8th-19th.
The Kick-off Camp was custom-designed to meet the needs of this unique cohort of participants. Principal components of the training program included:
- an intensive background course on atmospheric and ocean science
- a series of computer labs
- a communication workshop
- a series of seminars bringing together international experts in the field of in weather and climate science
- team building activities
- student-led group presentations looking at a problem given in the morning lectures.
The Kick Off Camp also provided an excellent opportunity for informal interaction between the students and the MPE CDT staff, and there were organized extracurricular activities to facilitate such interaction.
