On 6 December 2018, six MPE CDT students (Mariana Clare, Zoe Goss, Adriaan Hilbers, Imogen Dell, Niraj Agarwal and Matthew Garrod) volunteered their time to participate in the Xmaths Imperial Lates event.

Imperial Lates are the College’s series of after work free public events where different research themes are brought to life by the creativity and passion of Imperial academics, students and staff through live demonstrations, workshops, interactive experiments and inspiring talks. They provide a unique opportunity to share the wonder of our research with the public, the College and the wider College community, create links with new research groups, collaborate with other institutes, and try out new ways to present research to new and diverse audiences.

Xmaths: The latest in the Imperial Lates series brings together researchers and students groups from across the Maths department, and comprised demonstration stands, workshops, a games and puzzles area and talks, discussions and musical performances.

The MPE’s demonstration looked at how maths can predict glacier shrinkage and the impact offuture tsunamis.

A special thanks to all students who took part!
