Summer School Mathematics of Planet Earth

Date: April 23 – 26, 2018

Location: University of Reading, Whiteknights Campus, Room Lyle G74

Research at the intersection between mathematics and the geosciences has been gaining more and more prominence over the last few years, as exemplified by the Year of Mathematics of Planet Earth held worldwide in 2013. The Planet Earth is an excellent example of a forced, dissipative non-equilibrium system dominated by nonlinear processes and featuring multi-scale interactions. The challenges posed by this system have been and will be an inspiration for mathematicians and geoscientists alike. This summer school will comprise three courses on a graduate level that highlight areas with strong interaction between geophysical problems and mathematics. Each course consists of six lectures (45 mins each) and a one hour tutorial. The school is hosted and supported by the EPSRC CDT Mathematics of Planet Earth. The school is aimed at PhD students and early research scientists, but any researcher interested in participating is warmly welcomed. To register, please use the link above (registration will open shortly). The conference fee is £50 for PostDocs/PhD students. For questions and further details, please contact the organisers at t.kuna@reading.ac.uk details (we kindly ask you to not use this email address for registering).
