The Jamboree

Each year, we hold an annual residential CDT convention, called The Jamboree, in which students present work from their MRes projects or their PhD projects through short talks and posters. Students are encouraged to invite guest lecturers to The Jamboree, and manage funds for this purpose.

A two day industrial study group forms a core activity of the Jamboree. Students work in groups on open ended problems proposed by industry partners of the CDT. These problems involve nontrivial data management but also require substantial knowledge of weather, ocean, and climate physics. Establishing an efficient workflow within the group and presenting results to peers is a significant learning goal of the industrial study groups.

The Jamboree provides a yearly milestone for the students, encourages peer awareness of progress, and relates their projects back to the core CDT topics now shared by the students.
