Summary: The SandPit meeting at the University of Reading on Wednesday 25 October 2017 will consist of talks from potential supervisors from the University of Reading, Imperial College, the Met Office, ECMWF and other industrial partners. There will be break out groups in order to help collaborators to find potential students.
After this meeting, you will only need to write a proposal for an MRes project if you have found a co-supervisor and a student who is interested in the project. We will ask for completed MRes project proposals in November. The proposed projects should be of a sufficiently mathematical nature, have a clear motivation from atmosphere or ocean science and have clearly articulated potential for impact in these areas. These proposals will be written in consultation with the student and with the MPECDT staff to ensure that they are suitable. It is expected that most MRes projects will lead to PhD project proposals. We very much hope that you will be keen to supervise a Mathematics for Planet Earth student, starting with an MRes project in 2017/18.
