Paulina Rowińska reports on visit the Institute for Computational and Experimental Research in Mathematics (ICERM) at Brown University

For some MPE CDT students last summer was a very busy time. Paulina Rowińska and Jens Bendel crossed the Atlantic Ocean to visit the Institute for Computational and Experimental Research in Mathematics (ICERM) at Brown University. Because their research interests include computational statistics, the five-day workshop “Stochastic numerical algorithms, multiscale modeling and high-dimensional data analytics” suited them perfectly.
In July the small town in Rhode Island, Providence, hosted renowned mathematicians, computer scientists as well as representatives of other sciences. Days were filled with inspiring talks and poster sessions. However, not less important were heated discussions during informal meals. Students were able to talk to more experienced scientists who were keen to share their experience.
That week in Providence definitely resulted in new research ideas as well as friendships and scientific connections.
